Roundabout Farm

History

In 2005, Rob and Megan Weary purchased 76 acres of land in Keswick, VA that had previously belonged to a vineyard.  They quickly got to work clearing the land of trellises and planting the first seeds of their own farming operation.  Starting a  farm was a long-time dream of Rob’s, who grew up on a family farm in Pennsylvania and then did agricultural work for the Peace Corps.  Rob and Megan met as students at the University of Virginia.  During her college years, Megan developed an interest in planting bulbs, often finding spare time to plant in community beds or a neighbor's garden.  Though they spent some time away from Charlottesville after graduating, they left with the intention that they would soon return.

Well, it's been a while since we last saw a computer and I can't say we've missed them that much.  We had a few health concerns crop up on us last week.  I (Dan) came down with a 24hr fever, nausea, flu-like virus that took us out of commission for a day.  In the meantime, Mike began taking meds for a bullseye-like rash that appeared mysteriously on his arm.  But now we feel better than ever and are busy taking in all the mountain scenery.  We are spending a substantial chunk of today trying to send some pictures home so we can finally post some new ones.

For the past 6 days or so, we have been on the same schedule as Dave and Chris, a father and son biking duo from east Tennessee.   There are a number of other riders keeping similar paces nearby that we have been seeing frequently.

Mosquitoes have been terrible.  Stargazing has been great.

Big thanks to my friends Anthony and Cara (and their dog  Jackson) who drove out from Boulder to visit us in Kremmling, CO.  They supplied us with a batch of what Mike claims as "the best cookies he's ever had", and an assortment of tasty bars.

Also, thanks to my sister Regan for the impeccable timing of her visit.  Her fruit salads and guitar playing brought be back to health.  Hello to everyone back home!

They made it to Country Roots Farm! The text I received from Dan said that they had a relaxing stay there on the farm, and that they were leaving this morning. Now, they head up the Rocky Mountains...

New farm articles and photos on the way...

Surrounded by the gargantuan peaks of the Rockies, Mike and Dan set up camp tonight at nearly 10,000ft in elevation. From the looks of the pictures they sent, the scenery is breathtaking.

That must have been quite an uphill battle...

Mike and Dan have been facing some serious headwinds as the make their way out of Kansas. On the brighter side, they enjoyed some authentic Mexican food, although they are miles away from the border...

Mike ran his first flat! Check out the pic....
